Kirk Barley is an artist and recording musician originally from Leeds known as Bambooman, who has been bubbling along on the electronic scene for a few years gathering steam, with releases on Accidental, Sonic Router and his own Health imprint. His live shows have seen him share stages with the likes of MF Doom, Madlib, Matthew Herbert, Jon Hopkins and Venetian Snares whilst he has collaborated on releases with UK rapper’s Jehst, Kashmere and vocalist Segilola. Kirk was commissioned by the Open Music Archive/Modern Art Oxford (2016) to create an album and live performance made entirely out of copywrite-free recordings collated from the museum’s archive of video and tape recordings from the last 50 years. He has also been commissioned by British Art Show (2015) to create an LP and live set made from tiny ms. Audio chops from the top ten hits of 1962.
Kirk produces music based on original field recordings he makes and will be spending his artist residency finding the sounds of the Museum and the local area; recording the industrial and human sounds for an electronic music performance performed on Sat 21 April.
